Midafternoon sunbeams pick up a rainbow of color from hand-blown glassware by Fargo artist Jon Offutt and present a multicolored shimmer on the walls of the Taube Museum of Art in downtown Minot.
The exhibit is full of vases and pumpkins, clear and opaque, multi-hued, delicate and intricate. Offutt was in Minot for Artfest last month, demonstrating his art both in functional pieces and fine art, and examples of his craft are on flattering display.
"You can see how he has evolved and grown over the years," said Nancy Brown, executive director of the Taube. "He's continued to learn and expand his knowledge of what glass can do and be.
"This is the third time he's been in Minot, and he's just beginning to do some more functional pieces, like tabletop lamps and decorative ceiling light covers," Brown said. "He's thinking of getting into glass basins since he's done some home improvement shows in Fargo and has become inspired."
Offutt will be in Minot in person for the closing reception 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 20. The reception and museum are free and open to the public. Freewill contributions support the museum.
'Festival of the Season'
Brown is also preparing for the Festival of the Season art show and sale beginning Nov. 27.
"This is a month-long event where patrons can buy the art right off the wall, and we're currently looking for submissions for it," she said. "The only requirement is that the artist be over 18 years old, and we'll accept any media, including two- and three-dimensional."
The Taube is open 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays or by special appointment. For more information, call 838-4445.
