Minot State will not renew men’s basketball coach Mike Hultz’s contract
Minot State University has decided to not renew men’s basketball coach Mike Hultz’s contract for the 2010-11 season, the university announced Tuesday. Hultz has been the head coach since the 1997-98 season. “I want to thank Mike for his 12 years of service to Minot State,” said MSU Athletic Director Rick Hedberg. “This was not an easy decision, but one that we feel is necessary as we go forward in our move to NCAA Division II.” Hultz became the school’s all time wins leader, surpassing Herb Parker, last season. Hultz’s overall record at Minot State was 194-159, qualifying for the NAIA national tournament twice and was named the 2005 DAC-10 Coach of the Year. Hedberg stressed that his decision had more to do with the direction of the overall program than the Beavers play on the court. “Mike is a good person who has a great knowledge of the game,” Hedberg said. “I don't think I've met anyone who analyzes the game of basketball like Mike does.
