Americas 2008: All Media
Terry J. Aman/MDN - - Rugby artist Caroline Doucette's "Best of Intentions" is part of the "Americas 2008: All Media" exhibit in Minot State University's Northwest Art Center's Hartnett Hall Gallery.
A variety of images, expressions and experiences come together in “Americas 2008: All Media,” a juried art show sponsored annually by the Northwest Art Center at Minot State University. This year’s collection is featured in the center’s Hartnett Hall Gallery. “It’s an honor (for artists) to be selected for the exhibition,” said Avis Veikley, executive director for the gallery. “There were over 500 entries from 21 states, from which 34 were selected, including four from North Dakota.” The juror, Rusty Freeman, is the curator and vice president of the Plains Art Museum of Fargo. He has prepared several traveling exhibits, including a retrospective of Minot artist Walter Piehl’s works in 2003. “He has a good curatorial background,” Veikley said. “And we’ll have a unique aspect to the reception we have opening the show: Because he is coming here, not only will he be explaining his selections for Merit Award and Best of Show, he’ll actually be announcing them then, too.
